So we've left Wellington and the North Island behind us and headed South. The main theme seems to be stunning scenery. The ferry across through the marlborough sounds and the following drive through their tortuous coastal roads was breathtaking and the photos (above and below), as always, don't do it justice. Krystal, as the van has now been named, is still going strong. The noise turned out to be a fan belt and it cost us a nights stay and 75bucks in picton to get it fixed. And she's also needed a top up of her brake fluid which seems to be seeping slowly from her. but otherwise still going strong.

First planned stop on the south island was Abel Tasman national park. Again stunning scenery, this time in the form of beaches and temperate rain forest, was the main talking point. We explored the park on foot making the most of nice weather with cool beers on the beach. Introduced to sand flies, not like the ones back home, much smaller with a nastier bite. They are my new worst enemy and I am currently plotting on a sand fly extinction plan. All in all Abel Tasman was sweet, here a few photos which kind of capture the beauty, but again the camera does little justice. Also note compulsory comedy facial hair for all boys on tour.
